Brazilian striker Diego Tardelli has ruled out a January switch to Manchester City as he wants to ensure his place at the World Cup.
Tardelli, currently contracted to Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro, had been rumoured to be heading to Eastlands after City agreed to meet his £7million valuation.
However, the 24-year-old is keen to remain with his current employers as he believes he will stand a better chance of being selected for the Brazilian World Cup squad.
"I'm tired of talking to the president but he wants to do business in January," said Tardelli. "I've told you, it's important I can stay here at a club I know and where I've adapted in order to have a chance of being at the next World Cup.
"For now, I'll stop here.
"I know some rumours emerged about Manchester City and Benfica but nothing was concrete.
"My thoughts are still focused on Atletico Mineiro and I've said that my intention is to stay here."
