Manchester United have been linked with a swoop for Ajax striker Viktor Fischer, who has been described as the new Lionel Messi.

The 18-year-old Dane has alerted the Red Devils to his attributes over the past 12 months after he finished top scorer in last season's inaugural NextGen Series tournament with seven goals, including a hat-trick against Liverpool, as Ajax reached the final. Fischer, who has two years remaining on his current deal, has started this season in a similar manner with another treble against Molde last week and it seems he has already done enough to warrant some serious interest from United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. It is being reported that United will offer the Dutch giants £5million to try and lure him to Old Trafford in the coming transfer window as Ferguson continues to prepare the next generation of players to succeed the latest crop of stars. If United do sign Fischer it would represent a real coup for the club as Denmark's Under-19 international coach Thomas Frank is in no doubt that he will become as good as Barcelona star Messi or Real Madrid's former United man Cristiano Ronaldo. "Fischer is special. He can be just like Messi or Ronaldo," said Frank. "He has their ambition and talent, and he always wants to score. He is hungry, always hungry, even if he has scored two or three times."
