Contract rebel to see out Reds deal

Nani reportedly put off Zenit St Petersburg from trying to sign him as he wants to sit out his current contract at Manchester United.
The 25-year-old Portugal international winger was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the summer transfer window when negotiations over a new deal extension faltered over his £130,000-a-week wage demands. And it appeared that Russian side Zenit would take Nani off United's hands just before the August 31 deadline as they were set to offer £25million for his signature. But, when the deal failed to materialise, Zenit's director-general Maxim Mitrofanov revealed that the player's huge salary demands scuppered the transfer and they moved for Porto's Brazil international Hulk instead. The Mirror has now quoted a supposed source close to Nani suggesting the player purposely asked for astronomical wages to put off Zenit as he was angry that United had offered him to the Russians. The source also claimed that Nani turned his phone off so he could not be reached in the build up to the transfer deadline and he will now sit tight at United and see out his current deal which expires in 2014. That will enable Nani to leave the club on a Bosman free transfer and join a club of his choosing.
