English option heads right back wanted list
Manchester United are set to bring in a new right back this summer with Crystal Palace's Nathaniel Clyne still top of the target list.
Sir Alex Ferguson and his brother Martin, the club's European scout, have been actively on the lookout for a pacy attacking full-back in the last few weeks - signalling that the manager is not content with Rafael and Fabio da Silva.
Sir Alex watched Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy after seeing his impressive debut for France against Germany on video and talking to Laurent Blanc while his brother has been spotted eyeing Rayo Vallecano's Tito twice in the last month.
But it is England Under-21 starlet Clyne who remains the most interesting option after his sterling performance against United in the Carling Cup quarter-final earlier this season.
The 20-year-old is the youngest of the three options and the cheapest with a price-tag of £2.5million mooted, despite the fact that he will be out of contract at Palace in the summer.
United would be liable to pay the Eagles training compensation for a player they almost sold for £250,000 when they were in financial dire straits back in 2010.
Rafael, the current Reds right-back, has had an injury-plagued season with a shoulder problem preventing him from starting until December.
