Euro defence over Anfield obsession - Fergie
Sir Alex Ferguson says defending the European Cup is his prime goal, despite United looking set to equal Liverpool's domestic record.
The Old Trafford boss revealed that he would spurn the chance to draw level with Liverpool's 18 top flight titles in the record books in order to secure back-to-back Champions League crowns - if he had to choose only one major trophy this season.
Speaking at a fans' question and answer session in Malta, he said: "I think there's an opportunity maybe to draw level with Liverpool, but that's not my [priority].
"When you look at our record in Europe it should have been better and nobody has defended the Champions League since the new format. So that's a great challenge to us and hopefully we can do it again."
United are two points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand as they chase their 18th league crown and resume their Champions League campaign against Inter on February 24th - seeking their fourth continental title.
