Ferdinand gambles with Wembley spot

Manchester United, 09:46, February 2, 2010 ,

Rio Ferdinand is risking his place in Manchester United's Carling Cup final team by appealing against his extra game suspension.

The England defender was hit with a violent conduct charge after video footage caught him swinging an arm at Hull's Craig Fagan in an off-the-ball incident during United's recent 4-0 win at Old Trafford. And, after Ferdinand lodged an appeal against the subsequent three-match ban, the Football Association hit him with an extra game suspension after deeming that his appeal was 'frivolous'.
Ferdinand missed Sunday's win at Arsenal and is also due to be banned for this weekend's home clash against Portsmouth in addition to away trips against Aston Villa and Everton.
However he is looking to contest the extra game ban which would make him available for the trip to Everton if it is successful. But if the FA again deem his actions frivolous then a fifth game could be added onto his suspension which would rule him out of the Carling Cup final against Aston Villa.
