Fergie close to Spurs raid

Manchester United, 09:12, August 13, 2008 ,

Striker Dimitar Berbatov is reportedly set to quit Tottenham to join Manchester United in a £28million transfer before the weekend.

The 27-year-old Bulgarian international has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford for most of the summer, but looked like he would be staying at Spurs when the club snubbed a £20million raid from Sir Alex Ferguson.
However, following further negotiations, it is now being claimed Berbatov will be allowed to leave for £8million more which will see the north Londoners make a £17million profit on the player they signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9million in 2006.
Berbatov is set to travel to Old Trafford for a medical on Wednesday and put pen to paper on a four-year deal worth £80,000 a week.
By selling the player Spurs coach Juande Ramos will be armed with a huge transfer kitty to bring in at least two new strikers before the August 31 deadline following Robbie Keane's recent departure to Liverpool for £18million.
