Sir Alex Ferguson could offer Nani to Benfica in order to take Angel Di Maria to Manchester United in January, according to reports.
The Red Devils chief has been heavily linked with a move for the highly-rated 21-year-old Argentinian international along with Premier League rivals Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. And, having been impressed with the winger in Benfica's Europa League games against Everton this season, Ferguson appears set to make an offer for Di Maria.
Ferguson has already revealed that he does not plan to splash the cash in the New Year window, but if the possibility of offloading Nani in exchange arose then it seems he would press on and try to take Di Maria to Old Trafford.
Nani, who is currently out injured, has failed to really press on since arriving at United in 2007 and his recent criticism of Ferguson's management style might well have spelt the end of his time at the club. And if the possibility of a return to his native Portugal with Benfica came about, he might well be willing to participate in a swap deal with Di Maria.
