Fergie tracks Euro winner

Manchester United, 12:05, August 12, 2008 ,

Manchester United are believed to have made a ?20m bid for Valencia forward David Silva, but Barcelona remain favourites to sign him.

The Euro 2008 winner is expected to hold talks with Valencia officials this week to discuss his future at the Mestella, with mounting talk that the La Liga club may be forced to sell one of their prized assets.
Barcelona have already tabled an offer, believed to be around ?23m, and appear to be still heading the chase for his signature with Silva said to be keen to remain in Spain.
Whether Valencia will want to sell one of their best players to a rival in the same league is another question, with United officials now awaiting further developments.
Silva, who normally takes up a wide role, has also been linked with Liverpool but it appears they have been priced out of a move for the 22-year-old.
