Ferguson - 'Rooney still improving'
Manchester United, 16:29, July 21, 2010 ,
Wayne Rooney is still developing and maturing into "the complete footballer", according to his boss.
Sir Alex Ferguson saw his striker score 34 goals last season in a Premier League campaign where they ultimately lost out on the title to rivals Chelsea.
Rooney then had a disappointing World Cup with England over the summer, which led to many people questioning whether he had suffered as a result of a long season battling both domestically and in the Champions League for United.
The reigning PFA Player of the Year is currently resting after his World Cup exploits while his Manchester United team-mates are over the Atlantic on a pre-season tour of the US.
Ferguson has said in a press conference he saw a real improvement in Rooney last season and is expecting more in the coming campaign.
Football fans considering using their free bet on United to reclaim their Premier League crown from Chelsea could take some notice of Ferguson's comments.
"He got us over 30 goals and if he does that again and adds a little bit to his game, then that's what we expect. The boy has got an incredible armoury of talent and what we have to do is to wait for that maturity," said the veteran manager.
"We also do nurture it and try to advise and coach in a fashion which will improve his game. But the most important thing I think he needs now is maturity and, when he gets that, I think you will see the complete footballer."
United begin their Premier League campaign at home to newly-promoted Newcastle United on August 16th.
