Ferguson seeks out Tevez alternative

Manchester United, 14:57, June 6, 2009 ,

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson may look to replace Carlos Tevez with £30m-rated Lyon and France striker Karim Benzema.

The news comes following an admission by the French club's chairman, Jean-Michel Aulas, that the talented 21-year-old is "not untransferable".
Benzema has said he will not be asking for a transfer but failure to hold onto their French title after seven years as champions to Laurent Blanc's Bordeaux last month, meaning they will have to qualify for the Champions League next season, could tempt Lyon into cashing on their most saleable asset.
"He said he wants to stay. I don't want to sell. So he is here at 99 per cent," said Aulas.
"However, Kaka should have not left Milan and he will join Real Madrid. We have entered spiral madness. Anyway, I am relaxed. I won't say Karim is untransferable."
Benzema added: "If there is a huge offer and the chairman tells me I have to go, I would probably leave.
"But I will not go and see him to ask to leave."
Ferguson may have a void to fill if United cannot reach an agreement over Argentina international Tevez, who seems certain to leave, while doubts remain about Cristiano Ronaldo's immediate future at Old Trafford.
