Ferguson upset with City
Manchester United, 11:54, December 24, 2009 ,
Sir Alex Ferguson has attacked Manchester City for their handling of the sacking of Mark Hughes, calling his dismissal 'unacceptable'.
The former United striker lost his job at Eastlands last Saturday despite having only lost two Premier League games all season and helping the club reach the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.
City's chief executive Garry Cook has moved to defend the club's decision to replace Hughes with Roberto Mancini after a raft of criticism from Hughes' colleagues.
Ferguson has now joined those who have come out in support of the Welshman and has attacked City's hierarchy for their decision.
"It was unacceptable behaviour," he said.
"It doesn't matter whether you have lost 20 games or two, there is a way to treat people.
"For some reason Christmas seems to bring out the worst in directors. I do not know how you can do something like that.
"From Saturday morning the rumour mill was working and Mark must have realised it was his last game. It was a terrible position to be in."
