Fletcher 'one of the best' - Carrick

Darren Fletcher has been described as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League by his Man United team-mate Michael Carrick.

Carrick has been impressed with the way Fletcher has transformed himself from a bit-part player at Old Trafford into a mainstay of boss Sir Alex Ferguson's plans over the past 12 months. And, after the 26-year-old Scot added a spectacular goal to his achievements in Saturday's 3-0 win against Everton, his impact on the team was hailed by his midfield partner.

On Fletcher, who notably has missed seven of United's last nine defeats in all competitions, Carrick said: "Darren is one of the best midfielders around at the moment.

"His performances are at the highest level and it is great to play alongside him. He really is on top of his game."
