Foot blow for Red Devils ace

Manchester United, 09:02, June 1, 2009 ,

James Milner has been called into the England squad after Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick withdrew due to a foot injury.

The 27-year-old managed to play in last week's Champions League final defeat against Barcelona in Rome with the problem. However, after reporting for training with the Three Lions squad it was discovered that Carrick had suffered a broken bone in his right foot.
Therefore coach Fabio Capello moved quickly to hand a place to Aston Villa midfielder, Milner, ahead of England's World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan in Almaty on Saturday and Andorra at Wembley next Wednesday.
United skipper Rio Ferdinand, who also played in Rome without being 100% fit because of a knee injury, is the only other doubt for England. But Capello expects him to be fit enough to travel.
