Sir Alex Ferguson claims Alexander Buttner is 'one of the best young left backs in Europe' after he signed a five-year deal at United.

Manchester United completed a deal to take the highly-rated 23-year-old Dutch stopper from Vitesse Arnhem for a fee in the region of £3.9million. And, Ferguson is hoping that Buttner, who made 119 appearances for Vitesse over the past four years and was part of Holland's preliminary squad for Euro 2012 this summer, will now put pressure on Patrice Evra for the left-back spot at Old Trafford this season and beyond. He told the club's website: "Alexander is one of the best young left backs in Europe and we're delighted to sign him. He's someone we've been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position." On his move to United, Buttner added: "Joining Manchester United is one of the best days of my life. It's a team I have admired for many years now and I can't wait to join my teammates and play my part in helping the club be successful."
