Michael Carrick claims Robin van Persie is 'world class' and he is looking forward to playing alongside him at Manchester United.
The Red Devils midfielder spoke out on the Dutch hitman's impending move from Arsenal to Old Trafford immediately after marking his return to the England set-up by helping Roy Hodgson's side to a creditable 2-1 friendly win against Italy in Switzerland.
Carrick, who ended the match with the captain's armband, was pleased with his performance while being thrilled at the prospect of Van Persie joining Sir Alex Ferguson's ranks for the new Premier League campaign.
He said: "It was special for me to play after so long since I wore the England jersey. To be captain for the first time in the final part of the game as well also made me feel proud.
"Then someone mentioned in the dressing room about Van Persie and if it goes through, it will be brilliant. He had a terrific season and he will further strengthen our squad. It is a great boost going into the new season.
"He is a world class player and we have always been about bringing in players of that ability."
