Prem rivals eye striker swoop

Manchester United, 15:50, July 30, 2010 ,

Sunderland are hoping to land Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan deal.

The Black Cats were linked with a bid for Aston Villa ace Emile Heskey but now are looking elsewhere to improve their strike-force ahead of the new season.
Boss Steve Bruce is said to be keen on landing United youngster Welbeck on a season-long loan deal and Sir Alex Ferguson may be willing to let him leave in order to gain some regular first-team experience this season.
Bruce wants another striker to complement the players he already relies on for for goals with Welbeck viewed as ideal back-up to Darren Bent, Kenwyne Jones, Fraizer Campbell and Martyn Waghorn.
