Sir Alex Ferguson will reportedly try and lure Tottenham's Luka Modric to Manchester United after missing out on Eden Hazard.

The Red Devils' chief was hoping to win the race for Lille's £30million-rated Belgium international playmaker Hazard this summer as he wants to bolster his midfield options after ending last season trophy-less. However, Hazard opted to move to Champions League winners Chelsea to leave Ferguson seeking an alternative arrangement. Veteran midfielder Paul Scholes has since signed a new 12-month deal extension, while Borussia Dortmund's Japanese international Shinji Kagawa is close to sealing a £12million move to Old Trafford. But Ferguson wants more quality options in his United engine room and reports claim he could reignite his interest in Tottenham's 26-year-old Croatian star Modric, with a £30million bid in this summer transfer window. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has always maintained that he wants to keep all of his best players at White Hart Lane to ensure they stay in the battle for at least a top-four Premier League finish going into the future. However, with Chelsea winning the Champions League trophy it means Spurs will miss out on the competition next term, despite finishing fourth, and that could see Modric try and press for a move to United.
