Reds fringe men hit Shakers for eight
Manchester United were boosted by keeper Anders Lindegaard's debut and Paul Scholes' run-out in the reserves' 8-0 win against Bury.
A very strong Red Devils' second-string lined up against the Shakers in the Manchester Senior Cup final at Carrington with Danish custodian Lindegaard finally making his first appearance in a United shirt since his arrival from Aalesund in November.
However, he was a virtual spectator as Scholes, who was continuing his return from an ankle injury picked up in November's 1-0 Champions League win at Rangers, inspired a comfortable rout.
Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Darron Gibson, Fabio and Gabriel Obertan also featured for United as they raced into a seven-goal lead by half time thanks to Obertan's hat-trick, Joshua King's brace and one apiece from Robert Brady and Fabio. Marnick Vermijl added the eighth after the break as the Red Devils took their foot off the pedal.
However boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be pleased to see several of his fringe players all get a valuable work-out, while O'Shea, Brown and Gary Neville will all look to fight it out to replace Rafael against Birmingham this weekend following his red card for two bookings at Tottenham.
