Manchester United are to launch a £20m bid for Robin van Persie in a bid to snatch the striker from under the noses of Manchester City.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is furious with the constant questions about van Persie and insists there has been no contact from City or United but reports claim it is only a matter of time before the bids rain in. Juventus are out of the race after admitting he is too pricey which will leave the way clear for City and United to battle it out for the striker's signature. City boss Roberto Mancini has to sell first and has admitted his frustration at the lack of activity at Eastlands. Transfers appear to be out of his hands and now United could nip in and seal a deal. "Van Persie is one of the best strikers in the world and it is difficult to buy him. Have we made an offer? I don't think so," Mancini revealed. United will bid £20million which should be enough to satisfy the Gunners and could also offer the 28-year-old £220,000 a week, the same as Wayne Rooney, to make sure they land their man.
