Rio tells star to wait

Manchester United, 11:49, November 11, 2008

Rio Ferdinand has assured fellow centre-back Jonny Evans he will get his chance to prove he has a future at Manchester United.

The 20-year-old will be making only his fourth start of the season when he faces QPR in the Carling Cup at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

He will be joined by the likes of Darron Gibson, Brazilian duo Rafael Da Silva and Rodrigo Possebon, plus strikers Manucho and Daniel Welbeck, while John O'Shea, Nani, Ji-sung Park, Anderson and Tomasz Kuszczak should also be involved.

England international Ferdinand knows from his own experience at his old club West Ham that Evans is itching to play and has told him he must wait for his big chance.

"Jonny needs to be patient," said Ferdinand. "The problem is he will also want to play as many games as possible.

"I was the same when I was a kid. I was behind the likes of Slaven Bilic, Alvin Martin and Marc Rieper.

"But I didn't look at how good they were, I just wanted to play. I wanted the manager to at least give me a game here and there. Jonny will be thinking that too."
