Rooney commits to United

Manchester United, 14:21, November 1, 2008

Fans' favourite Wayne Rooney has committed himself to Manchester United and has vowed to stay "for as long as I'm wanted".

The England striker - who made the controversial switch from Everton to Old Trafford in the summer of 2004 - has hit 10 goals for club and country in all competitions since the start of the new season.

The 23-year-old heads into Saturday's tea-time encounter against new-boys Hull looking for his 100th goal in club football and believes he can emulate Ryan Giggs, the Reds' longest-serving player and winner of 10 Premier League titles.

"I want to stay at this club for as long as I'm wanted here," Rooney told MUTV.

"I want to keep playing and keep scoring goals. Who knows, when I'm Giggsy's age, if I'm anywhere near his record and achievements, I'll be very pleased."

"It would be nice, but it is not the most important thing," Rooney said, in reference to reaching the 100-goal milestone. "When I've finished my career I'll look back, but I am still young and I just want to keep scoring as many as I can."
