Wayne Rooney admits he was delighted to grab his first tournament goal in eight years following England's 1-0 win over Ukraine.
The Manchester United striker scored the only goal on Tuesday night as the Three Lions saw off the co-hosts to book a quarter-final showdown with Italy. Rooney had not scored in an international tournament since Euro 2004 prior to his headed effort last night and the frontman was delighted to end his drought at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk. The United star now feels England can go all the way in Poland and Ukraine and has his sights set on a win over Italy in the quarter-finals on Sunday. "I haven't scored at a major tournament for a while so it was nice to get a goal which won us the game," said Rooney. "It doesn't matter who the quarter-final opponents are. The main thing was to get through the group and to finish top. "We know our qualities and what we're capable of. We've worked hard, done a lot of tactical play in training. "We're difficult to beat and I don't think any team will fancy playing us."
