Rooney set for lone role
Ji-Sung Park is in contention to feature in a five-man midfield against Manchester City while Nani and Jonny Evans are fit to play.
United have been working for several days in training with a system in which Park operates in a packed, five-man midfield, with Wayne Rooney the solitary striker. Park, who has not started a Premier League match in three months, was part of a five-man midfield against Manchester City twice last season, in the FA Cup semi-final defeat and the 0-0 derby draw at Eastlands - although Rooney missed both matches through injury and suspension. Danny Welbeck appears to be the unlucky player to miss out, although Ashley Young will also be concerned that he may not regain his place for the 'unmissable' clash. Sir Alex Ferguson is without injured midfielders Paul Pogba and Anderson while long-term casualties Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Vidic remain on the sidelines. Michael Owen is back in training and hoping to play some part in the three matches left before his contract expires.
