Rooney set to remain at Old Trafford
Latest news update:
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will reportedly remain at Old Trafford, despite handing in a transfer request.
The striker handed in a transfer request earlier this month and has since been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, although the German giants distanced themselves from the speculation on Wednesday.
Premier League rivals Newcastle have also been linked with an audacious, if unlikely, move for Rooney but the latest reports suggest he is set to remain at Old Trafford.
In the 2010/11 campaign Rooney stated that he wanted to leave Manchester United, only to perform a dramatic U-turn by signing a new five-year deal with the club.
The Times has now reported that the England international is set to make another U-turn by committing his future to the Premier League champions.
Rooney is set to meet incoming United boss David Moyes in the coming days to discuss his future, but it would appear as if the striker is set to remain at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old is under contract until the summer of 2015, which means United will probably seek to cash in on Rooney if he does not sign a new deal this summer in order to prevent him entering the final year of his deal.
