United "always looking" for players
Manchester United, 14:56, July 27, 2010 ,
Manchester United chief executive David Gill insists there is money available for new players despite a quiet summer.
Ferguson has added Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season, with the pair costing a combined total of around £18million.
However, both deals were completed early in the summer and Ferguson has suggested he may keep his cheque-book closed as he wants value for money.
Germany international Mesut Ozil and Holland star Wesley Sneijder have been linked with moves to Old Trafford over the summer and Gill claims Ferguson does have money to spend, despite reports the club's owners are struggling to finance any major transfer deals.
"The money is there if we believe there is a player who can improve what we believe is a very good squad," Gill said. "The team has been together for a number of years and done very well. In order to improve it a player has to be of a very high quality.
"We are always looking at players. We are looking 365 days a year - it doesn't just start when the transfer window opens. We are looking at it. We studied a lot of players at the World Cup, but we knew about a lot of them before that.
"Overall I think Sir Alex is very comfortable with the squad composition. That's not to say something won't happen, but I think it is a 'might', not a 'will'. We will see what happens over the next six weeks."
With the exception of Manchester City all the top clubs in England have all been fairly quiet in the transfer market and punters may still wish to use their free bet to back United to lift the title despite the fact it appears unlikely there will be any major transfer activity at Old Trafford before the new campaign kicks-off.
