United not just about me - Rooney
Manchester United, 11:56, January 29, 2010 ,
Wayne Rooney has rubbished claims that Manchester United are a one-man team and too over reliant on him to score goals.
The England international followed up his four-goal haul against Hull last weekend with his 21st goal of the season in the Carling Cup semi-final win against Manchester City on Wednesday night. And, while critics are suggesting that United are nothing without Rooney's presence on the field, the striker has hit back to highlight the importance of his team-mates in his goalscoring exploits.
He told the Sun: "I don't look on us as a one-man team or see it as a great burden on me, it's nonsense.
"If I don't get the service, I can't score. If I don't, I expect others to, and we've done that well."
"We've shared the goals out well and it's certainly not just about me.
"We expect to win as a team, not as individuals."
