Nemanja Vidic admits Manchester United need to improve on their defensive displays after conceding five goals in three games.
United have picked up six points from a possible nine so far in the Premier League but Vidic admits he is concerned over his side's defensive record. The Old Trafford outfit suffered a 1-0 defeat to Everton in the first round of fixtures before picking up wins over Fulham and Southampton. Despite the fact United won the games against the Saints and the Cottagers they conceded four goals and Vidic feels this is something that needs to be addressed. He told MUTV: "It was a difficult game and we conceded two goals that we're not happy with at all. We've been told before the game what Southampton's strengths are, what their game is and what they're trying to achieve. In the end, they did it, so it's disappointing." Vidic played alongside Rio Ferdinand at St Mary's for the first time since the Serbian picked up a serious knee injury against Basel last December in the Champions League. The centre-half feels the number of defensive changes that have been forced upon boss Sir Alex Ferguson have played a part in United's problems at the back and Vidic hopes he and Ferdinand can again become an effective partnership. He added: "I think it's only the second time in a year that myself and Rio have played together, so it's a long time and it's tough as everyone needs more games. I have to say, we are not really pleased with the goals we've conceded. "There was a lack of concentration for all four goals we lost [against Fulham and Southampton] but we have to work on it. You have to say we've had a lot of turbulence in defence with so many changes and people going in and going out."
