Vidic boost for depleted United

Manchester United, 11:07, November 20, 2009 ,

Rio Ferdinand will miss Man Utd's home clash with Everton on Saturday but fellow defender Nemanja Vidic is set to return.

Old Trafford chief Sir Alex Ferguson has moved to allay fears Ferdinand will miss the next few months, describing his back/calf injury as a relatively short-term problem which will now only sideline him for a few more weeks.
Ferdinand has not played since the end of October but hopes are high he could return for the festive programme.
Vidic is now ready to step back in after being ruled out for three weeks before the international break with calf trouble but Jonny Evans needs a fitness test ahead of the visit of the Toffees.
Right-back Gary Neville is suspended and John O'Shea is almost certain to miss out with a thigh injury picked up in the Republic of Ireland's controversial World Cup exit in France on Wednesday.
