Vidic out for champions
Manchester United, 10:24, August 14, 2009 ,
Man Utd star Nemanja Vidic will miss Sunday's clash with Birmingham while his deputy Jonny Evans is struggling with an ankle problem.
Serbia defender Vidic has a calf injury and Evans sat out Northern Ireland's friendly draw with Israel on Wednesday night - so boss Sir Alex Ferguson will need to make a late decision.
Wes Brown is expected to shake off a thigh injury but is short of match fitness for the visit of Alex McLeish's men to Old Trafford which could mean John O'Shea is switched to central defence.
Ritchie De Laet or Fabio could then slot in at right-back with captain Gary Neville still troubled by a pre-season groin problem.
Nani is available after proving his fitness following a dislocated shoulder with an appearance off the bench for Portugal in midweek.
Forwards Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia will hope to be handed Premier League debuts for the Red Devils.
