Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester City
Match Reports, 22:10, October 5, 2009 ,
Former City defender Richard Dunne gave Villa the lead before Craig Bellamy equalised to ensure the points were shared at Villa Park.
The pre-match talk may have focused on Gareth Barry's return to the club where he spent 12 years but it was former City man Dunne who stole the show with a powerful header early in the first half.
Dunne, who spent nine years with City and enjoyed a spell as captain, rose above Barry to direct the ball past Shay Given and into the City goal from James Milner's corner. The Irishman, who was named man of the match, didn't celebrate his goal against his former employers as he was applauded by both sets of fans.
The visitors continued to push for the equaliser but the Villa back-line held firm, though Carlos Tevez was wasteful with his chances from range.
City managed to level maters after a slick counter attack was finished off by the in-form Bellamy, the Welshman made no mistake as he slotted Emmanuel Adebayor's pull back into the net from six yards out after 67 minutes.
