Blackburn Rovers 0-0 West Bromwich Albion

Match Reports, 18:06, May 24, 2009 ,

Jason Roberts was sent off for violent conduct in a rather disappointing final-day encounter at Ewood Park.

West Brom were already down and it showed as they struggled to find a spark to make their extra man count after Blackburn were reduced to ten men when Roberts was given his marching orders.
Blackburn almost took the lead after fifteen minutes as a rapid counter attack ended with Christopher Samba shooting from close range but he was denied by the upright.
Morten Gamst Pedersen came close a few minutes later as he struck a long range free-kick towards the corner that forced a good save from Dean Kiely.
West Brom's best effort of the half came through Borja Valero just before the half-hour mark. The Spaniard hit a low drive with his left-foot but the ball travelled just wide of the post.
Then, 20 minutes after the restart, Robert Koren crossed from the right-hand side and found Marc-Antoine Fortune who headed over the bar.
On 71 minutes, second-half subsititute Roberts was sent off for an elbow on Jonas Olsson when challenging for an aerial ball.
Six minutes later West Brom could have broken the deadlock through their captain Jonathan Greening after he met a Chris Brunt corner at the near post but failed to hit the target with a stooping header.
