Blackburn Rovers 2-0 Fulham
Match Reports, 17:05, January 17, 2010 ,
Blackburn won for the first time in ten games thanks to goals by Christopher Samba and Ryan Nelson against Fulham at Ewood Park.
Sam Allardyce's men are now five points clear of the drop zone after putting a halt to that alarming run.
The opening goal came on twenty-six minutes as Danny Murphy failed to clear a Benni McCarthy corner and Christopher Samba poked the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
Six minutes later, Fulham were almost level as Murphy picked out Clinton Dempsey with a cross and the American struck an acrobatic overhead kick against the crossbar.
The second goal came ten minutes after the break as Benni McCarthy whipped in a free-kick from the left that found Ryan Nelsen who headed home from eight yards to put Rovers two up.
With twenty minutes remaining, the Cottagers were almost back in the game as Damien Duff delivered a deep corner to the back post for Zoltan Gera.
However, his volley while on target was straight at Rovers keeper Paul Robinson.
Fulham also lost Dempsey to injury just past the hour mark with what looked like a knee problem.
