Bolton Wanderers 0-0 Sunderland

Match Reports, 17:20, May 9, 2009 ,

A fantastic save in the last minute from Sunderland keeper Martin Fulop denied Bolton the win in a game otherwise devoid of chances.

It was the away side who started the brighter of the two teams as Sunderland hounded Bolton and gave them little time on the ball.
Kieran Richardson had the best chance of the first half after Kenwyne Jones set him directly in front of goal, but the former Manchester United midfielder couldn't hit the target from just 12-yards out as Bolton breathed a sigh of relief.
Grant Leadbitter saw a half-chance hit the side netting after cutting in from the left, while Richardson saw another effort go wide for the Black Cats as Bolton offered very little in the opening 45 minutes.
The home side did up their game in the second half but neither side really looked like getting a winner until the last minute of stoppage time when Jlloyd Samuel launched a long throw into the Sunderland penalty area. Kevin Davies flicked the ball on to Cahill who headed goal-wards, it looked as if Bolton would snatch all three points but Fulop produced an exceptional save and ensured Sunderland earned a precious point in their fight against relegation.
