Bolton Wanderers 0-2 Blackburn Rovers

Match Reports, 16:07, November 22, 2009

Blackburn continued their fine record at The Reebok Stadium with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 victory over poor Bolton.

The first half was largely uneventful, with the one touch of class resulting in a goal when David Dunn finished expertly on 32 minutes while a Sam Rickett's own goal after the break sealed the win for the visitors.

Matt Taylor threatened to create an opening on several occasions for Bolton early on but his efforts were thwarted either by a lack of bodies in the box for the home side or a resolute Blackburn defence.

His free kick just after the half-hour mark took a wicked deflection and crashed off the crossbar but Blackburn managed to turn defence into attack with a majestic, flowing counter-attack which saw the magnificent Dunn sprint the entire length of the pitch to open the scoring with a deft finish. Jussi Jaaskelainen, at full stretch, was unable to prevent the ball hitting the back of the net. Tempers flared towards the end of the half, with Dunn and Fabrice Muamba picking up cautions.

Blackburn started the second half determined not to sit back and invite pressure from Bolton and they had numerous opportunities to further their lead.

Bolton themselves had several chances to equalise in the early exchanges of the half but the lack of a real cutting edge was sorely obvious. For all Blackburn's domination in the second half, Bolton were still very much in the game until an awful own goal looked to have wrapped up the points for the away side. Ricketts and Jaaskelainen failed to communicate properly and Ricketts headed the ball past the helpless Bolton goalkeeper to hand Blackburn their second goal.

Bolton pressed forward in the dying minutes of the game but Blackburn refused to let them grab a consolation goal, hanging on until the final whistle.
