Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Liverpool

Match Reports, 22:13, January 21, 2012

Bolton Wanderers lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a well-deserved 3-1 victory at home to a lacklustre Liverpool.

Adam Bogdan started in goal for the home side and former Reds striker David Ngog led the attack, while the Reds showed faith in the misfiring Andy Carroll, who started up front on his own in the continuing absence of Luis Suarez.
Bolton got off to a flying start as they took the lead after just four minutes, with Mark Davies allowed to collect a Chris Eagles pass and advance unchallenged into the area before placing a low shot beyond Jose Reina.
Just before the half-hour mark it was 2-0, as Eagles again set up the chance and this time the Reds backline failed to pick up Nigel Reo-Coker, who slotted the ball home from close range.
Eight minutes before half-time Liverpool got a goal back as Craig Bellamy ran clear and beat Bogdan with a calm finish.
Right on the interval Reina made a fine save to beat out a 25-yard free-kick from Martin Petrov.
Five minutes into the second half Bolton restored their two-goal cushion as a left-wing corner was headed back by David Wheater and Gretar Steinsson rifled home a fine volley from ten yards out.
That seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Reds, who struggled to create much in the second half.
The closest they came to pulling another goal back was 20 minutes from time when Daniel Agger unleashed a 30-yard left-foot thunderbolt which clipped the top of the crossbar with Bogdan well beaten.
