Burnley 1-0 Everton
Match Reports, 17:11, August 23, 2009 ,
Burnley continued their good run in the Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Everton at Turf Moor.
Wade Elliott scored the only goal of the game in the first half but the Clarets again survived a penalty scare when, with 15 minutes to go, Louis Saha blazed his effort wide of the post after Tony Hibbert had been brought down.
It was Elliott who had originally given Burnley the lead, the move started with good work from Chris McCann, Steven Fletcher then provided the ball to Elliot, who converted home from the edge of the penalty box to send the home fans wild.
That could have been Burnley's second as after just 40 seconds Martin Paterson saw his effort tipped on to the bar by Howard.
Everton have never lost their opening two games in a Premiership campaign, but a lacklustre striking performance soon put an end to that.
