Chelsea 1-2 Arsenal

Match Reports, 19:26, November 30, 2008

Robin van Persie struck twice in three second half minutes as Arsenal came from behind to defeat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea slipped up against one of the big four at home again despite leading at half time when Johan Djourou put through his own net after half an hour before van Persie's second-half double kept Arsenal's stuttering title challenge alive with a fine win.

The match started at a frantic pace with both teams looking to attack the opposition from the very first whistle but there weren't too many clear cut chances in the opening 20 minutes, with a long range Cesc Fabregas effort and a Frank Lampard header being the closest either side came to scoring.

Chelsea had more possession, though, and they were rewarded when they took the lead on the 30-minute mark. Jose Bosingwa's low cross into the perfect area was turned into his own net by Djourou.

Arsenal almost responded immediately as van Persie forced a good save from Peter Cech but it was Chelsea who looked the more likely to score the next goal and they almost did that in first half injury time, but Nicolas Anelka headed just wide from close range.

In the second half Chelsea were on top yet again and they looked to put the game beyond Arsenal. They were playing some patient football and almost doubled their lead when Lampard fired just wide.

The game was turned on its head in the space of three minutes though, as van Persie struck twice to give the visitors the lead. First, the Dutch striker capitalised on some confusion in the Chelsea defence to smash the ball into the roof of the net from 18 yards.

Then, after 62 minutes, he was at it again as he turned in the penalty area before firing a shot past Cech into the bottom corner of the net.

Chelsea never recovered from this and Arsenal were the team growing in confidence. Arsene Wenger's men saw out the remaining time with relative ease as Chelsea crashed to their second home defeat of the season.
