Chelsea 2-1 Hull City

Match Reports, 17:06, August 15, 2009 ,

Didier Drogba's late goal gave Chelsea a winning start against a Hull side unlucky not to claim a draw at Stamford Bridge.

The striker scored in the final minutes of the contest, bagging his second of the game after debutant Stephen Hunt had opened the scoring for Hull.
Hunt gave the visitors the lead on 28 minutes with a low left-foot strike after Chelsea failed to clear their lines from a Tigers corner.
The Blues equalised nine minutes later when Drogba, who had missed a gilt-edged chance in the second minute, hit a swerving free kick past Boaz Myhill.
Chelsea enjoyed a host of opportunities after the break, Nicolas Anelka and Drogba denied by good defending, Michael Essien and Salomon Kalou going close.
It looked as though a resolute looking Hull were going to take a deserved point from the game until in injury time Drogba found the back of the net with a floated shot from a tight angle to give Chelsea victory.
