Everton 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Match Reports, 17:30, January 21, 2012

David Goodwillie's second-half equaliser keeps Blackburn out of the relegation zone following an evenly matched tie with Everton.

Steve Kean's side traveled to Goodison Park on the back of a confidence-boosting win over Fulham but suffered an early scare when Victor Anichebe hooked Landon Donovan's cross wide inside three minutes.
The visitors recovered well and had the better of the opening stages with Goodwillie forcing a fine stop out of Tim Howard before Scott Dann's looping header was cleared off the line.
But it was David Moyes' side who took the lead and it came under controversial circumstances. Tim Cahill ended his drought after Marouane Fellaini appeared to handle the ball, setting up the Australian for his first goal since December 2010.
The dispute added insult to injury for Rovers who had made the better start but they responded well to going behind, Dunn almost leveling the scoreline when his first-time effort struck the post.
It was all Blackburn after the break but Howard remained largely untroubled in the Everton goal. Radosav Petrovic saw a speculative effort fly wide of the post while Morten Gamst Pedersen blazed over from 25-yards.
Steve Kean's side eventually found their breakthrough, albeit in bizarre fashion, on 72 minutes when Cahil's attempted clearance hit Goodwillie and bounced into the net.
The traveling supporters may have fancied their side to go on and snatch three points but it was the hosts who came closest. Shane Duffy's glancing header hit the bar with eight minutes left before an injury-time goalmouth scramble saw the visitors clear the ball off the line twice.
A point was nothing less than the visitors deserved however and, thanks to results elsewhere, is enough to keep them out of the bottom three on goal difference. Everton meanwhile drop to 14th after being leapfrogged by Sunderland, Aston Villa and Fulham.
