Everton 1-1 Stoke City

Match Reports, 17:03, October 4, 2009 ,

Robert Huth's first goal for Stoke was cancelled out by a great effort from Leon Osman as the spoils were shared at Goodison Park.

The home side dominated the first half though their chances were few and far between as Stoke defended resolutely.
Australian midfielder Tim Cahill should have opened the scoring for Everton but his headed effort went straight into Thomas Sorensen's arms from eight yards.
Ricardo Fuller saw an almost identical chance saved by Tim Howard at the other end, while Sorensen produced a great save to deny Osman in an otherwise fairly quiet, if hardfought, first half.
The visitors took the lead on 50 minutes when Huth rose highest to meet Matthew Etherington's corner, his powerful header into the top corner gave Howard no chance as Stoke took an unlikely lead.
The Potters' lead didn't last long though. Just five minutes later Osman and Johnny Heitinga played a neat one-two before Osman unleashed a beautiful effort from the edge of the Stoke penalty area. His left-footed shot gave Sorensen no chance as it nestled into the top corner.
Both sides continued to push for the winner, with Everton boss David Moyes bringing Jo and Yakubu on as late second-half substitutes, but neither side could score again and the points were shared at Goodison Park.
