Everton 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Match Reports, 17:33, October 17, 2009 ,
A late goal from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov rescued a point for Everton against a battling Wolves side at Goodison Park.
Looking for only their second away victory of the season, Wolves started as the brighter of the two teams. Greg Halford's long throw was causing problems for the Everton defence and after 11 minutes, Christophe Berra latched onto one and for his powerful shot had to be blocked by Joseph Yobo.
The home side came into the game more in the few minutes that Jody Craddock was off the pitch to receive treatment and almost took the lead after 18 minutes. Bilyaletdinov's corner met the head of Louis Saha, who couldn't quite direct his effort on target.
Wolves finished the half strongly though and attempted a number of shots on goal. The most notable of which came in the 33rd minute, when Doyle's curling strike forced a decent diving save from Tim Howard.
Everton brought on Ayegbeni Yakubu in the break and the change made a real difference to their attacking threat.
However, it was the away side that struck first through Kevin Doyle. The striker raced onto a huge clearance by keeper Wayne Hennessey and flicked the ball under Howard.
The visitors couldn't hold onto the three points though as Everton struck with only a couple of minutes of normal time remaining. Bilyaletdinov got on the end of Jo's cross and tapped the ball into the net.
Even though there wasn't time for either side to find a winner, there was enough for Wolves substitute Stefan Maierhofer to be shown a second yellow card for a foul on Howard in stoppage time.
