Everton 2-1 Fulham

Match Reports, 22:09, January 27, 2012

Marouane Fellaini's second half header clinched Everton's safe passage to the fifth round as they came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1.

The Cottagers took the lead, in fortuitous fashion, when Howard Webb awarded a controversial penalty, as Chris Baird's shot was blocked by the arm of a sliding Johnny Heitinga in the box. Danny Murphy stepped up to stroke home the spot kick to give Fulham a 14th minute advantage.
Everton had made a bright start and David Stockdale was under consistent pressure in the Fulham goal until Denis Stracqualursi finally levelled for the hosts just before the half hour mark, as he rose to nod home Landon Donovan's superb right wing cross.
Donovan was proving to be a constant menace to the Fulham backline and as Everton pressed for the winner they so dearly wanted, it was the American who was involved in every attacking venture.
So it came as no surprise when the Donovan played a leading role in the winner, as another cross from the wide areas found an unmarked Marouane Fellaini in the box, who powered the header beyond Stockdale with just 17 minutes left.
Fulham could find no response and Everton almost stretched their lead as Tim Cahill twice struck the woodwork late on, as the David Moyes' men booked their spot in the last 16.
