Everton 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Match Reports, 19:12, December 6, 2009 ,

Everton snatched a point with a late surge to rally from 2-0 down as Jermain Defoe missed an injury-time penalty for Tottenham.

An entertaining game at Goodison Park ended in a draw as Spurs squandered a two-goal lead in the final fifteen minutes.
Defoe had opened the scoring and Michael Dawson added the second but goals from Louis Saha and Tim Cahill brought Everton level before Defoe wasted a golden chance right at the death.
The best chance of the first half fell to Peter Crouch on eight minutes but he fired over after Aaron Lennon had picked him out on the penalty spot with a cross from the right.
The opener came two minutes after the break as Defoe raced onto another Lennon cross and thrashed the ball into the top corner from close range.
The second was added on the hour mark as Michael Dawson rose to meet Niko Kranjcar's corner and he gave Tim Howard no chance with a powerful header into the corner.
Substitute Louis Saha brought Everton back into the game twelve minutes from time as he strode onto a Stephen Coleman cut-back and drilled his shot past Huerelho Gomes into the top corner.
Tottenham only had themselves to blame for the equaliser as they failed to clear an Everton attack before Leighton Baines picked the ball up on the left and drove across goal for Tim Cahill to head home from close range.
Tottenham should have won it in injury time after they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Wilson Palacios by Tony Hibbert. Defoe stepped up confidently to take the penalty but Howard saved the England international's drilled shot down the middle to earn the Toffees a point.
The result leaves Spurs in fourth and they will be disappointed not to have gone above their North London rivals Arsenal into third, while Everton rose one place to 15th and three points clear of the relegation zone.
