Everton 3-1 West Ham United
Match Reports, 17:23, May 16, 2009 ,
Louis Saha's double helps Everton to victory and lift them above Aston Villa into fifth as they overcame 10-man West Ham.
West Ham could consider themselves a little fortunate after taking the lead with a 30-yard strike from Radoslav Kovac on 24 minutes which came against the run of play after a bad start by the Hammers.
However, just as they were looking to close out the half in front, James Tomkins bundled over Tim Cahill inside the area and received his marching orders from referee Phil Dowd. Saha stepped up to send Robert Green the wrong way from the spot.
Everton were ahead just three minutes into the second half when Steven Pienaar's corner found its way to Jospeh Yobo at the far post and the Everton centre half poked home to put his side in front.
Luis Boa Morte and Carlton Cole both had chances to equalise before Saha finally put the game to bed and made sure that David Moyes' team go into the final game of the season a point ahead of Villa in the race for fifth.
