Everton swept aside Fulham 4-0 at Goodison Park, with Nikica Jelavic scoring twice and Marouane Fellaini and Tim Cahill also netting.

The hosts named the same starting eleven who did so well in the 4-4 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford, while Fulham brought in Kerim Frei in midfield, with Danny Murphy dropping to the bench. The Toffees got an early boost when Pavel Pogrebnyak was penalised for handball in the area and Jelavic coolly converted from the penalty spot, sending Mark Schwarzer the wrong way. With 16 minutes on the clock it was 2-0 as Fellaini rose highest to head home from a Steven Pienaar corner, with Damien Duff failing to keep the ball out on the line. Fulham's lone response came on the half-hour mark as Clint Dempsey's deflected shot was superbly tipped over by Tim Howard, with help from the top of the crossbar. Then five minutes before the interval Everton added a third goal as Pienaar released Jelavic and he somehow found the net from an acute angle despite the attentions of Schwarzer and a defender. The second half was a a tepid affair compared to the first 45 minutes, with the only attack of note ending in a fourth goal for the home side. Pienaar was again the instigator as he lifted the ball over the top of the visitors' defence for sub Cahill to run through and beat Schwarzer to the ball to touch it into the empty net.
