Fulham 2-1 Everton

Match Reports, 18:34, September 13, 2009 ,

Second half goals from Paul Konchesky and Damien Duff helped Fulham come from behind to defeat Everton 2-1 at Craven Cottage.

In a classic game of two halves Tim Cahill had put Everton in front in a first half in which the Cottagers were very poor and failed to test Tim Howard in the Toffees goal. However the hosts were a different side altogether after the break and their positive play was rewarded with two goals and three points which lifts them up to tenth position.
The defeat means it is Everton's worst start under David Moyes as they sit in 19th position on three points from their four games.
The first real attempt on goal came in the 15th minute when Jack Rodwell's shot deflected off Aaron Hughes and was saved by the legs of David Stockdale, who was almost caught out by the change in direction of the ball.
Clint Dempsey had a few efforts at the Toffees goal but either headed wide or found his way comfortably blocked by Howard.
However Everton got the goal their brighter play deserved on 33 minutes when Leighton Baines' left-foot free kick into the area was headed beyond Stockdale by Cahill, who looked marginally offside when the ball was played in.
Fulham started the second half brightly and Andrew Johnson forced Howard into a save with a low shot across his goal on 47 minutes.
The hosts continued to pressurise Everton and were rewarded on 57 minutes when Danny Murphy's free kick hit the defensive wall and fell to Konchesky whose on-target shot deflected past Howard off the leg of Sylvain Distin.
Everton were then hit by the loss of Phil Neville who was stretchered off with badly gashed knee on 65 minutes, before Fulham took the lead with 11 minutes remaining.
Duff was allowed to run at goal before he cut inside and lashed as a left-foot drive into the far corner of Howard's net.
Everton almost equalised within a minute when Marouane Fellaini's header was saved by Stockdale before Joseph Yobo's follow up was blocked on the line by Murphy.
The visitors did press for a goal in the dying minutes, but it was Fulham who almost got a third when Howard was caught outside of his area and Dempsey's goal bound shot was stopped on the line by Distin.
