Darron Gibson's wonder strike gave United all three points against Hull, who survived relegation thanks to results elsewhere.
Hull looked composed in the opening stages against a much-changed Manchester United side but were behind in the 24th minute to Gibson's stunning strike. The youngster fired a shot past Boaz Myhill into the top corner to claim his first Premier League goal and stun the KC Stadium into silence.
The atmosphere changed again when news of goals at Villa Park and Upton Park filtered through, and despite their team not creating much in the way of goalscoring chances, the Hull fans were relatively happy at the break.
That theme continued in the second half with Hull not really testing the United defence and almost content to lose the match but retain their Premier League status thanks to Aston Villa's win over Newcastle. The fans dared to start to celebrate as a tense match entered the final 10 minutes and scenes of joy greeted the final whistle.
