Hull City 1-0 Bolton Wanderers
Match Reports, 17:02, August 22, 2009 ,
An inspirational Kamel Ghilas strike in the second half sunk Bolton in a tight encounter at the KC Stadium.
Ghilas secured the victory for Hull who claimed their first points of the season against a Bolton side who created more than enough chances to win the game.
Johan Elmander had the best chance of the first half after just two minutes when he latched on to a Fabrice Muamba pass, but only dragged his shot wide of the mark from close range.
Geovanni neatly stepped away from Muamba after half an hour before driving a low strike towards the bottom corner but Jussi Jaaskelainen made a good save down to his left.
Kevin Davies should have scored on the stroke of half time but he volleyed wide from just six yards after a deep delivery from Sean Davis.
Kevin Davies again should have opened the scoring five minutes after the break as he headed just wide with a glancing effort from a Matthew Taylor set piece.
On the hour, substitute Jozy Altidore lifted the ball into the path of Ghilas in behind the Bolton back-line and the Algerian controlled well before driving the shot low and past Jaaskelainen to give City the lead.
Ten minutes later Hull should have made it two as Geovanni played Altidore in behind but he lifted the ball over Jaaskelainen and just beyond the post.
