Hull City 2-1 Manchester City
Match Reports, 17:44, February 6, 2010 ,
Goals from Jozy Altidore and George Boateng helped Hull record a surprise victory over Champions League-chasing Manchester City.
Hull were always the better side in this one and started off on the front foot with Craig Fagan firing just wide from a Altidore cross in the opening few minutes.
Carlos Tevez was proving a threat for the away side, but it was Hull who came closest to taking the lead on 21 minutes with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's volley from Stephen Hunt's dangerous ball in only just missing the target.
The home side managed to go ahead just ten minutes later though. Altidore collected the ball on the edge of the box and curled in his first Premier League goal to give Hull a deservedly half-time lead.
Into the second half and it was again Hull who looked the more likely to score and they managed to double their advantage on 54 minutes through George Boateng. The former Middlesbrough midfielder fired an unstoppable 25-yarder past Shay Given.
This drew City boss Roberto Mancini into action and he introduced Adam Johnson for his debut. The substitute made an immediate difference too as it was from his corner that Emmanuel Adebayor poked the ball into the net to get his side back into the game.
Patrick Vieira was then introduced for the visitors as they pushed for an equaliser but, despite a few half-chances, they never looked like getting themselves back on level terms as Hull held firm to record their first win in 11 Premier League games.
